Most Brits of a certain age have fond memories of this classic retro dessert – jam roly poly. It’s quite simple – a bit like a Swiss roll …
I'm having some of that!😄
Yum.
Oh yum! That looks so good! Cheers, Keef! 👍👍✌️
We always had it steamed on the stove top when I was a child but here in South Africa they always bake it
Either is good
Love the Molly Weasley jumper on Mrs. KC !!
Americans can make custard with vanilla pudding mix, just use more liquid
Hey Keef if you're in a dessert phase how about a seed cake? They're in the Hobbit.
Which reminds me, I don't know if you're being funny on purpose when you do this (maybe that means it's sophisticated humor), but whenever you refer to one of these figures like Tolkien or Mr Heinz or the Colonel like they're your old schoolmates, that always tickles me, haha
Oh nice one Keef I LOVED jam Rolly Polly when I was a kid at school!!! Live in the States now, wonder of we have suet over here ?
Classic treat that I haven’t had in many years.❤️👍🏼
Every time I hear roly-poly pudding mentioned, I think of Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Samuel Whiskers or The Roly-Poly Pudding".
I really LOVE your wife's sweater!!! Where can I get one like that? Please tell me!!!! It looks so beautiful warm and cozy!
New subscriber, great long egg vids
School dinner right there Keef! Thank the lord you didn't get all cheffy and faff about with it! 🙂
Ah, a school dinner classic 👍👍 Hard to believe now, but 25p a day got you a two course dinner. Some fun stuff (kidney curry springs to mind) but other dishes that I'd never have got to try otherwise
Always enjoyed jam roly poly, so thanks Mr Keef
Looks delicious but you can feel your arteries clogging up just watching the video
Looks great Keef! I saw this and right away sent the link to my wife who’s excited for me to make it, so I’ll definitely rewatch in the process of making this. Thanks again Keef!
I have never had roly-poly. I know that my grandmother, who began cooking as a little girl in the 1890s loved to make them. This was a real treat to watch. Total winner, Keef!
Thanks for the recipe but the custard . . . Should be made with eggs!
Looks Incredible Keef, well played
Super! Would feature in rotation with all the other steamed puddings in Sunday Dinner (served at Noon and accompanied by family favourites on the Light Programme, unless Dad overrulled for Opera on the Third Programme).
Add 1/2 tsp of salt to the dough mix, and a few drops of vanilla essence/vanilla seeds (or almond essence if using raspberry jam).
