Food prices are crazy indeed. What cost me 70 dollars this time last year I'm fortunate to get for 160.00. It's hard to fix good meals on a budget for just the two of us. Can't imagine doing this for a family of 12. God bless you and your husband.

We do the salsa chicken it's really yummy. We serve it with white rice. The gravy from the salsa is great on the rice. You can also put green beans in with the chicken so tasty

Do you have any smaller multicultural grocery stores in your area? I'm in the Chicagoland area and I've found that these stores will run a different meat sale every week. I can get chicken drumsticks from .69 to .99 per pound in a "family pack". I bring it home and break it down into meal size portions before freezing it. One store has had ground beef every week for $2.19. I make extra trips if I have to and go to the stores just for the specific sale item. Take care and good luck keeping your grocery bill down!

A simple favourite we have around here is just hamburger with gravy, mashed or just boiled potatoes and veggies. We usually eat it like that or sometimes I turn it into a shepherds pie. For us, 1 lb of burger with 3 packs of gravy plus the potatoes and veggies will do about 4-5 servings. I usually double it so we can eat it again the next night. I use brown gravy. It's cheap, easy and delicious! That's what we're having tonight. I'm currently peeling potatoes.

It's off season right now but ALDI has a great soup in a bag that you add water and cook it and it makes a lot. It's called Chef’s Cupboard Soup Mixes. Their Cafe Bustello coffee is the best and it cheap.
