My tip is that Cauliower cheese freezes well. I would make a large one and then freeze it in individual portions – because with teenagers you never know how many folk will be around for a meal!

I'm at home full time but still don't have time to faff about cooking from scratch all the time. Something I found helpful was putting together a few bags of what tend to be called dump meals. Just needed to dice a load of chicken breasts and then portioned them out with some other ingredients for 3 batches of honey rosemary chicken. Just needed popping in the slow cooker for 6-8 hours.

I feel like the "basic" spices people start with are onion powder, garlic powder, salt & pepper, oregano, parsley and basil, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, vanilla and maybe bay leaf and some dill for pasta salads.

You can use the leaves of the cauliflower as a veg ,stir fry in butter and garlic. I to have lots of spices and herbs which I refill at my local zero waste shop,so cheap. Zip lock bags are always washed and reused unless raw meat had been in it. I am disabled so can't cook from scratch all the time so jars are a lifesaver.

Great ideas Claire! Why don’t you give a soup a go with your lentils – you can blend! Carrots, onion, lentils & cumin, stock cube etc! It’s a tasty filler – you can freeze it into portions! If you have celery or courgette too, a good addition! A great way of using veggies, and the lentils will give you some protein!

I agree with you about cooking from scratch on principle being counter productive sometimes. I work a lot of hours in a stressful job, plus kids so I’m constantly exhausted and pushed for time. My time saving things are buying frozen chopped onions and ready chopped garlic. I have in the past bulk chopped onions or garlic and frozen it, but it’s not a good use of my time, I don’t enjoy it and the cost saving is not significant.

Morning thank you. I have been using diluted Zoflora for years around the house works a treat. I have also recently tried Fabulosa which is sold in Wilko's and Home Bargains and used it in the same way. Its cheaper than Zoflora and is vegan and cruelty free

hi Claire, another great video; I love the way you tackle the rising cost of food in England, and the idea of using everything; I have got some carrots and potatoes hanging around, and today's job will be to use them up. thankyoux

Hi Claire, brilliant sound and practical advise as always. Couldn't agree more, cooking from scratch or buying things what others people do just isn't realistic to your family needs, and what they like to eat. But with the lentils I've been known just to add them to my mince for lasagna and things and honestly my family wouldn't have a clue that they are in there! I hope you are keeping well.

Frozen veg do well in soups and it is handy that they are already prepped. I should do this more often. Throw them in the slow cooker with some meat or beans in broth and season. Makes an easy dinner.

Your family would eat those canned lentils if times get desperate. Unfortunately it seems to be heading that way.
With the way prices are I'm glad I don't buy meat or dairy. I couldn't afford it. I believe in the future that people will be eating more meatless meals. It's healthier anyhow.
So, my tip is, use meat as more of a condiment like they did in the healthiest countries. ( Until the fast food places moved in)

Hello Claire I have only just started following you and have watched a few of your videos. Can you tell me how many people are in your family and about how much you use for however many people. I am one person and my own and I spent between 160 and Β£225 per week on food my daughter and her husband will come once a week. I do have an extensive pantry and I always have had even when my children were younger I would like to know what your trick is. I am very picky about what I eat and what I buy I like nice food like fillet steak et cetera Thank you

Great video Claire, great advice. Most of us are trying to do our best. I always now have a jar of something in the cupboard for quick pack ups for hubs or a ready meal for me if I am on my own for convenience. I think there can be a lot of pressure these days to live the perfect life…….sadly life isn’t like that and we have to do what is best for us and our families without judgement of ourselves or others. You put that across perfectly. Great spice idea too, in fact I went through mine last week and threw out loads that were out of date by yearsπŸ˜±πŸ˜‚bought for some slimming recipe and used only once. I will definitely be looking into the spice combos. Thank you….will look forward to part 2πŸ˜‰πŸ˜»πŸ™β€οΈ

Hi Claire, so good to see a new video, and those are great tips. Thank you ever so much. I do agree with other viewers about mashing up the lentils and adding them to something. Nobody will know the difference and it is additional protein.
Keep these videos coming, fingers crossed. Thanks again ❀️

🀩, aye also was it my food zip bags, & why not. 😊 I'm using everything in my fridge freezer , to get it unplugged & washed out, I've got Tescos saving stamps on 2 cards, plus I'm one for yellow labels, & I don't shop as a rule in Tescos, I find it the most expensive super market.

I really need to work on not buying excess for stockpiling. I part time prep which is going to come handy in this economy but i always find myself buying extra tins/dried goods/freezer items "just incase" as i fear the next time i go it will be much more expensive. Currently have a 4m supply for a family of 4 so time to calm down lol. Great video

For cleaning I like to use rubbing alcohol. I add essential oil ( lavender and lemon mixed is a favorite) and use it to clean, freshen the air, freshen upholstered furniture, rugs, carpets, pillows, mattresses, and any thing but wood. For wood my favorite is Murphy oil soap. It smells wonderful and makes wood look brand new. tfs Have a love day Claire ! πŸ₯°βœπŸ’—πŸ£πŸ€πŸ‡πŸ₯šπŸ’πŸŒ·πŸŒžπŸŒ›

My mother in law has always washed out the plastic bag her loaves of bread come in and then uses them as freezer bags. When I goto visit she gives me bags and bags of food to take home so I always make sure I have space in my freezer before I go round 🀣🀣

Magic bags from Morrisons on the too good to go app are good if you're serious about saving money. You do get duplicate items but if you've got time you can make them into soup or pasta sauce or freeze stuff or share them with friends and family. Even after sharing out I thought it was well worth the Β£3.09 I paid for a big box of fruit and veg.

I'm really enjoying your channel, you offer some great advice πŸ‘ I always have a bag of red lentils in the cupboard and things like chick peas and butter beans are great for bulking out a curry or casserole.
