What happens without the probiotic? Does it not mix together?
Hello Mary,
Thank you for this recipe! I recently got some probiotic capsules so I am looking forward to trying it.
I have a video request- the Happy Whipped Cream from Morinokomepan cooking looks amazing, too good to be true, but I failed to get the right texture when I tried it!
Kitty!
Yakult!!
Terrific! I will try it! Thank you ๐
Would this work with store bought coconut cream?

This looks amazing! I canโt wait to try making it! I donโt have a pressure cooker though; do you think thereโs any way to make this in a slow cooker if kept on the lowest temperature, or would that be too high still, and kill off the good bacteria we added in?
"Put on a lid to keep our dust". In reality, "Remove cat from kitchen. Put a lid on culturing coconut milk to prevent excess cat hair from getting in the butter." ๐ธ
Thank you Good Boi…for your distraction of Mommy Mary..๐look what you went and caused! ๐๐๐ค๐ค๐ค
I have a yogurt maker from forever ago-will that work?
I use vegan actimel per 1l of coconut cream from carton. Put it on sourdough starter setting in my breadmaker. Once it's sour to my taste it goes in the fridge and I make agar agar and starch kind of cross between jelly and custard. Mix all together and a weeks worth of yogurt is made.
Wanderfull rรฉcipe, thank you from Spain
Butter and other creamy things are always my favourite. ๐คค I also a huge fan of yogurt, kefir or cheese, things that have microbes. ๐ Can you make a tutorial of how to make a vegan Greek yogurt, Mary? There are many recipes using cashews, almonds or full-fat coconut milk but I'm curious about more sustainable crops like peanuts, hemp hearts or oats. It would be a good idea if you show us how to ferment any plant-based milk deliciously!! Home-made, affordable and nutritious Greek yogurt is my dream. #reciperequest
My InstantPot doesn't have a yogurt settling, but I just sprout quinoa to make rejuvelac and then use that to make butter. Tastes as good as Miyoko's to me and it's like 1/10 the price to make. Definitely give it a try if you haven't. It's not as hard as it seems at first and once you get the hang of it, it's easy. Great as a gift for vegans too! Make up a huge batch and make a couple different compound butters. Add a sour dough loaf or some high quality bagels and you're good to go!
yakut?
And you could add some usual suspects like nootch and sea salt
It reminds me of labneh.

Canned coconut milk is one of the most inconsistent products I buy.
Yakult is the name of the probiotic drink.
Oh my gawd, it looks so creamy ๐
She wanted to make yogurt and out came … butter? Who would have guessed that?
Legit question here, not a hater. You mentioned bugs (bacteria), so how is it vegan?
In describing the taste, I noticed you didn't say coconut. Is there no coconut taste? (I ask as an outlier who dislikes the taste of coconut.) Thanks!
This is basically labneh, right?
I would be so distracted with such a pretty kitty. He should be helping you cook more often ๐
3:55 This looks great! Iโll have to try it since I like Miyokoโs and my Instant Pot has been languishing lately. ๐
I noticed your lid cracked on your Pyrex bowl. I had the same issue (plus staining) so I looked around for one-to-one silicone replacements because I was fed up, and found some from a company called โSophicoโ. I love them, personally. Definitely not cheap (like $8 a piece), but they appear to be practically indestructible. 10/10 would recommend them. I think you can find them on Amazon if youโre interested. ๐ Only complaint is that theyโre a bit grippy. Can be an issue when stacking things in the fridge if youโre not careful.
So u made coconut labne , lol
Yay this is exactly how I make butter and my family loves it. You should have it with this Indian flatbread called paratha! It's so good.
I tried making a clarified butter (ghee) from this but it wasn't very satisfactory. I generally make my own coconut milk for the butter so while at it I'll try adding in tahini and make it, maybe?
Would you say this a similar to cream cheese? When you said "creamy" and "tangy" it reminded me of cream cheese.
Surprisingly, the canned coconut from Dollar Tree has no gums or other thickeners. It's a bit thin (because it's from the Dollar Tree) so you can't use it for high-fat applications like this. But if you want something you can use in curry and smoothies, it's good. It's a brand called Azul.
