Should beef be browned off for a stew? Ive never found any different in not browning first when using a slow cooker, but would people recommend browning the beef when using and instant pot to pressure cook a stew?

I bought the Tramontina Sam's Club pressure cooker tonight and found your video at the top of the list, thank you. I am going to take your suggestion of double pressuring. I have that same water filter, if it is ProPur.

Last Saturday we were in the grocery store and they had pork but roasts for $ 1.00 lb.
I picked up one. I seasoned it and put it on my Char-Broil Grill for about 1 1/2 hour.
I turned the middle burner off and put the two on each side so the temp of the grill was about 250-280 degrees.
I even poured some honey on the pork butt for flavor.
It cooked and cooked turning it maybe 2-3 times.
It was looking great. Then I put it into my 6 quart Power Pressure cooker for 40 minutes.
You talk about goood ! Man it came out fork tender !
I have one of those steamer baskets you see, the kind where you spread open and put into a 6-8 quart pot. It fits nicely into the Power Pressure cooker. I steamed some carrots, broccoli and squash for about 2 minutes each. The vegetables came out just right !
This fall I am going to get out my wood smoker and smoke/cook the roasts about 4 hours and then put them into the Power Pressure Cooker. The mesquite or pecan wood would really add the smoked flavor to the meat !

Why would you not brown the meat in the pot first? The ensuring gravy would be much more flavorful, and less greasy if you drained any rendered fat. I juzt ordered this cooker in 8 qt. Yours looks like a 10 qt.

In my electric pressure cooker now – with McCormicks Beef Stew Seasoning mix – why hassle when it's already done? – of course added fresh onions, celery, carrots and red potato's.  These cooker's are amazing and easy!  Not your grandma's for sure! Looking forward to this.  Thanks for sharing.  All recipes are easy and versatile depending on your tastes…just experiment.  Well done!

fabulous place to start but I would encourage anyone new trying their hand at pressure cooking a beef stew to tweak this just a tad.  first off, use beef broth, not water.  next, brown the meat quickly before starting the cooker and last, cook the meat with the tomatoes, seasoning and one thickly cut onion for 18 minutes,  then open and add your potatoes, celery and carrots for an additional 18 minutes.

You are right. He should brown the meat but different people do it differently.
I just got the Power Pressure Cooker and love it. It is soooooo FAST !
As for the salad chopper I have been using mine for 2 years and love it.
They are hard to find on the internet but worth the searching on the internet.
You want to get the one he has. It has two sizes of cutting blades. It is easy
to clean up and keeps all the ingredients in one big bowl !
Winter time is soup and stew weather with home made corn bread Yum Yum !

Aren't you supposed to sear the meat before proceeding?  And afterwards aren't you supposed to drain it?  By dumping the meat in raw all that fat & grease is in the cooker.  NOT healthy eating.

I just got an electric pressure cooker and have some questions – 1) can you use the spice packets like McCormick's or do they become too intense in the PC?  2).Can you use canned veg? I'm thinking those veg are so soft, if you use them, you should wait until the end and just let them get warmed up by the stew? 3) have you ever used a tub of the Knorr stock? How do you think that would work? I love a lot of flavor and use a lot of spices on my own, but I do like the McCormick's line for a consistent flavor. However, I think I'm afraid that the PC will intensify commercial flavorings too much, especially make it taste too salty. I could be completely nuts on this one, so feel free to school me.  Nice video; like everyone else, I loved the veg chopper.
