I tried the buttermilk substitute using full fat milk and full fat yoghurt. The substitute worked even better than buttermilk. I used it to make my cornbread. Surprisingly it came out BETTER! than just using the buttermilk. The cornbread was moister and stayed most for several days after it was made. Amazing! Thank you Mary for this video. I will use the substitute from now on it was sooooo much betterβ€
I knew about vinegar but not the others! I love your videos because you explain things in great detail!!
Thank you!
Could you please do a video about long term storage of our ferments? I have limited fridge space but want to ferment things for my family when they are in season and save them for the winter. Does everything need to be in the fridge or is there a way to slow the ferment and can it for shelf storage?
Great video! Thanks so much!
Homemade buttermilk have the culture's in it ? Just curious !
Never to old to learn something new.
Hello sweet Mary, Thank you for answering my question about your countertop burner. I did purchase the one you use and I agree, it cooks a bit hot so I have to be careful with it. I've made my own buttermilk for along time as I usually don't have room in the fridge for a quart of it, tho I love to drink it. I learned today from you about the cream of tarter, that's a great way to use up the cream of tarter that's been hiding in my pantry. Have a great day my friend, Gloria
I've done all of those except the cream of tartar. That's a new one. Thanks!!!
Hi mam is it hot milk or room temperature please answer thanku love youππππΉπΉ
can this be made with evaporated milk?
if so how?
thanks
I need nutritious, unprocessed, sugar free snacks. Do you have any recipes that are sugar free?
What is the second machine on your right on the counter :)?
Thank you Mary!! I knew about the vinegar, but didn't know the whole thing or the others! I printed the recipe! Thank you!
Thanks! I always wondered about the cream of tartar… π I have some in my pantry, I will try this option soon! Fun to learn it has more uses than just for stiff peaks πππ
Will the milk/vinegar version keep in the refrigerator for a few days? Can I make in advance?
Thank you Mary! I have learned so much from watching your channel! You are a fantastic teacher!
I WASN'T AWARE OF USING CREAM OF TARTER TO MAKE A BUTTERMILK SUBSTITUTE, THANK YOU MS. MARY FOR TEACHING ME SOMETHING NEW. LOVE YA AND GOD BLESS YOU.
Can you use raw milk ? Half &half ?

homemade unflavored kefir is a good substitute too… you need less thinning
I learned something today. I did not know that you could use cream of tartar, yogurt or sour cream to get a buttermilk substitute. You are ingenious! I always enjoy watching your cooking channel, Mary. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the information Mary. I dont like to drink buttermilk so when i have to buy it alot goes to waste. I did know about vingar and milk, but not the others
Do you know if these substitutes can be used to make cheese? The recipes for cheese I have call for cultured butter milk.
Hi Mary, I had no idea there were so many substitutes for buttermilk! Itβs interesting because I have a buttermilk powder that I just found out about recently and I use it for my dry ranch dip.The next time I need buttermilk for a recipe Iβm going to remember the options you gave us. I really dislike purchasing it because the containers are always large and I only need a small amount so I end up throwing it out. Hope youβre doing wellβ¦ Enjoy your week and Iβll see you soon, Dolores π₯°
Great tips!
Scott Wisotsky milk from whole butter making is so delicious.
