When I made bread many years ago, I used unbleached flour instead. It looks a little different than most people are used to, but is much better for homemade bread. When making your own pasta, you may want to buy durum wheat flour instead of regular flour. They even sell semolina flour for making pasta as well. That's the best.

For lunch you could also make French onion soup with those onions you bought. Instead of beef consommé just use some beef buillion cubes. Instead of French bread use your homemade bread, top with cheese and stuck in a toaster oven to brown it. ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this video, I love the comparison you did regarding cost then vs now and especially how you showed what was left over and what you might buy, like beans the following week. I would love to see a part 2 of this video with your creativity and the left overs combined with another $18 week. I know, wishful thinking but your videos are such a source of enjoyment and inspiration. Ty again for your efforts, and ideas.

I really appreciated the disappearance of rice and beans! I can't eat legumes (excruciating migraines) so I get fed up when it seems that every low-cost meal blog is beans beans beans.

If I had enough money I would certainly surprise you with a new mattress. Those Helix mattresses come to your door in a box and then inflate and are supposed to be GREAT Maybe someone out there could do that.

Where the heck do you shop? I haven't paid 29cents a can for anything in _decades_. Wanna save $40? Don't buy a rice cooker because any pot with a lid works just fine. How many eggs do you slice a week? Seriously. And there is no greater waste of $$ than buying an instapot. I'd cut back on most of your appliances and buy better foods.

Thank you for showing the difference in prices of individual items! It seems like a few cents wouldn’t make a difference but it really does. Your videos are so important and helpful especially in the current economy

Good job! I’m amazed! I guess I would like a little more protein. Btw I have fed my family super cheaply by starting with a turkey and after cooking it I have enough for 2 weeks. To feed 2 kids and an adult. I make pot pie, enchiladas, casseroles, sandwiches, soup with dumplings, tacos. Etc.

It wasn't that long ago that Aldi's eggs were almost $4 per dozen. And just two years ago I was paying $0.39 per dozen. Thanks, Lisa for the hope your videos provide! ❤

I found your video to be very timely and interesting! Kudos for your easy, and easily modified (to individual tastes), recipes!
Maybe it's just me ,a senior also with health conditions living on a very small budget , but I really don't understand why older folks who have already lived through several economic downturns/inflation aren't better prepared to meet them.
I live in one of the most expensive states in the lower 48, and even I can eat very enjoyably , without depriving myself of "treat" foods, on $60. or less (usually much less) per month. How? I have a freezer, which I bought second hand 15 years ago, learned to cook from scratch and can., and grow small amounts of veggies/herbs on my windowsills and porch.

This allows me to take full advantage of grocery/meat/vegetable sales on items I like.
