One trick that works very well is to fry a slice of ginger root in the used oil before storing. This will remove much of the odor and taste in the used oil. Try it!

I was straining used oil thru a coffee filter for a while unless it was burned or had taken on the smell of something strong.
I dont really use enough anymore for it to matter now.

Yea. I use the gravity method. I pour it in a Pyrex measuring cup the 4 cup one and letting settle. Then I pour the pure oil off the top into the same bottle it came from. Excellent tips!
