In my experience, too little water will cause the top layer of beans to undercooked, you do need to cover them and that will be more water than it looks like you should need. Old beans can be tough.

Fwiw to anyone. I just got my first IP. I make seasoned black beans from dry dir3ctly. I use the IP pressure cooker to cook them in a 50/50 broth/water and use my spices. The beans are cooked to perfection in 25 minutes of pressure cooking ( plus a few minutes to get up to pressure and 10 minutes of natural release.) They are tender yet not falling apart AND I get less gas than the beans I've ever made myself by soaking overnight or longer and changing the water several times and never adding salt. 2 cups of beans to 4 cups of liquids is my ususal.
Pressure cooking is a game changer. I use a salted bullion and water to cook and they cook! Try it , you will never soak again unless you have issues. Make ahead of time, like the night before, to get max flavor and let the beans soak up the extra juices. If you can't that's OK too, just know that leftovers will be better!
I even asked my fri3nd who ate over how the bean flatulence was on a scale from 1 to 3 ( three being highest) my friend said one!

After having my instant pot for 3 years, I just pulled it out of the box for the first time. AND I am trying dried pinto beans. We will see, it says 35 minutes to cook it after pressure. IDK.

No luck cooking home grown Arikara beans. They were collected by Lewis & Clark in North Dakota from the N. Americans living there. Sent 'um back to T. Jefferson who grew them. Way historical. Searching the interweb I found a lady who suggested cooking beans this way to reduce gas issues: Bring to boil in a pot on the stove for ten minutes; rinse until cold; repeat twice. Now put the in the Instant Pot now salt and cook for 25 minutes. They're in there right now. I did 35 min. last time and it was too much…depending on what you plan to do with them…but delicious. Extrainious comment are fine. I hit "L" which bumps you forward 10 seconds.

I use the steam button on everything. As you can see, your bean button sets it for 30 minutes but 22 min or less will cook the beans. Those buttons are like AOL is for computer dummies. Just give them buttons for every task.

The ratio is 1lb of beans to 4 cups of water. You had way too much water. Add 1lb kidney beans. Half cup brown sugar. Season as you wish but NO salt yet. Salt when they are done. Chili powder, chicken stock, cumin and so on are great.

Kidney beans are one bean that you NEED to soak and drain. There's some kind of enzyme or protein that can make you sick if you don't soak and drain. Unlike pinto beans and black beans that you don't need to soak.

Your beans weren't under cooked. They were tough because you should NEVER add salt while cooking beans, they will not plump up as big — also part of the reason you have so much left over water.

I like the lipstick! I think it's cute and fun. Plus remember it's just makeup. If you dont' like it you can always change it 🙂 For foundation I finally splurged and bought Lancome Teint Ethereal something. It's kind of spendy tho at $47. Apply with a beauty blender or your favorite sponge and it's gorgeous! Light weight medium build-able coverage and it smell so nice. (The scent DOES fade after a minute so don't worry.)
