I'm watching/listening to this again. My disaster was with milk actually. I was given a 5 pound bag of milk, one that you put in a restaurant type pour container. Anyway, that was a chore to put into freezer bags! Then I know I checked all the bags but one leaked. a gallon size freezer bag slowly leaked in my freezer. OMG! The mess was all down the freezer as I put them on one of the top shelves. I was so upset with the mess. Double and triple check your bags!

We have a whole home standby generator that was a must-have when we built our home. We live in the Deep South, and hurricanes come through several times a season in varying degrees and bad enough weather year-round for a random outage here and there. We also have several freezers (inside fridge freezer, garage side by side fridge with freezer, upright freezer, and small chest freezer) and have family that bring their items over when we know a bad storm is coming. We're as prepared as we can be, and it is still a horrible experience to go through.

As a USA viewer, I would guess that being lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut is from the west, not the south. I think Utah is one of the places where wagon ruts have been worn into rock. It's really cool.

Every time I had a baby somebody wanted to bring us a meal. I'm sure this is way more common than you think for someone to make this mistake. I know you feel bad because it's your daughter. It's a great warning to make sure you know what's in the food you are giving away though!!!

Love you ladies!! 😘 Yes, my house freezer is attached to the fridge. Thanks for the shoutout. It works for me, but not everyone is wound as tightly as me. 🤣 But it helps me keep track of our weekly meal planning and keeps us budget in check.

I've only had 1 flash freeze oopsie but felt things were okay as they were just left for about 24 hours. Those were my daughter's sandwiches for lunches and I didn't feel they affected the taste much. She ate them anyway. LOL! After that, I learned to set a reminder for myself to check on the foods I was flash freezing.

Thankful we also don't have power outage issues. We've only lost power for 30-60 minutes once or twice a year. We did lose freezer foods a year ago when our fridge/freezer combo died but that was before seriously doing freezer meals.

I keep a large rectangular Tupperware container in the back of my fridge and this is where I put the next 1-2 night's meals. I did have some cheapo bags that I had leaks with too but even my Ziploc have run into the same problems you mentioned. So much easier to empty and wash out that container if I have a liquid leak out instead of cleaning the whole fridge. 😁

I grew up hearing, "there are starving children in China." And when I finally grew up, I realized that they were still starving and thought how sad that in this day and age, children are still starving around the world.

uh oh that pork chop-mushroom soup recipe sounds like my suggestion from a few videos ago! (pork chops–mushroom soup–white wine). if so, apologies! i did note i've never tried it as a freezer meal and i always sear the chops, deglaze with wine, then add the soup (all on the stovetop). but good to know it won't work as a freezer meal…

I bought those silicone bags. I don’t like them. But I put my Ziploc inside those when I’m defrosting to keep them from leaking all over the place I do fine with that.

I have a stuffed pork chop recipe that I have made as a freezer meal for friends that I can share with you.
4 to6 pork chops (whatever you need and will fit in a single layer of the pan your bathing it in) I season then and lightly sear them, but it's not necessary. I have only made it in a casserole or foil pan, but I'm sure you could freeze them in a freezer bag and assemble it before you pop it in the oven.
Gravy: 1can off cream off mushroom soup. 1 package of brown gravy mix. 1 can of drained mushrooms and either heavy cream or canned milk. Wisk together to make gravy. Pour it in pan over the pork chops. Top with prepared packaged stuffing mix. Bake covered at 350 degrees until pork is cooked to temp. If I only use 4 chops, I nestle a bag of frozen green beans on one side and it cooks in the mushroom gravy to make a complete meal

You guys are the best! Thank you for looking out for everyone. And with such a large investment, its good to have a back up plan. I use the bowl to nest my bags for a couple of reasons 1. I don't want a bunch of those bag holders floating around. And 2. I have seen them fail too many times. Lots of great tips in this one.

Recently had a freezer die. I got out the stuff that was thawed and we ate that fast. Pulled out my pressure canner and jars and sadly the turkey fryer base and sat on my back porch in freezing windy weather trying to jar up pork roast. Quart jars have to be done for 90 minutes in the pressure canner. The high winds kept blowing out the flame even with make shift wind breaks. The turkey fryer was causing warping in my canner. This was over a holiday and we had family in for the holidays, so I was missing that. Why didn't I use the stove I can hear you asking. Pressure canners are aluminum. I have a new induction cooktop stove. They are not compatible. I lost 3 20 lb pork roast, slabs of ribs, 2 or 3 hams and a bunch of veggies. The canning process failed for who knows why but I have a suspicion too much fat was in each jar and they never sealed. Hubby took me out to get a new freezer after everyone went home. I was sick about it.

Get a generator if you have unstable electric and get a new freezer as soon as you see the one in the house starting to fail. Give the food to a local food pantry instead of wasting it. I wish I would have thought of that. At least then I could have written it off my taxes.
