I don't think I've ever had a hickory nut. I love hearing your stories about your childhood memories. Goodness me, you have a huge yard to keep up with. Plus your bed and breakfast plus your cooking videos. You amaze me. God is so good. 💕

My grand folks had lots and lots of hickory trees out in their timber on their farm. And they used to burn hickory wood because it burned hot and it burned long. One of our jobs as grandkids was to go out to the wood pile and bring in arm loads of firewood and stack it on the back porch so my grandma wouldn’t have to go out there in the cold in the winter time. I can still remember the smell of hickory wood smoke. And I may be wrong, but I think Hickory is related to the pecan.

This made me think of chestnuts. I remember, many years ago, my mom put chestnuts in the oven on a cookie sheet to roast. Well, you can imagine the mess in her oven when she heard explosion after explosion!!!! Lol, yes, she didn't pierce the nuts, so what a mess — all over the oven and oven door. You couldn't even see inside as the window on her oven door was just covered with chestnut. Uggh!!!

As a kid..I would gather hickory nuts for my mom. We would take the outer shells off together (most just fall off) then she would take them to my dad and he would crack them and get the "meat" out. It takes a lot cause they don't have much meat to them. My daddy loved hickory nut brownies. My mom use to make them. Good memories..except for the worms in them sometimes 😂

When I was about 6 or 7 we went barefoot all summer and lived beside a grown hickory nut tree. Wed run barefoot over the pointed end of one of those hickory nut shells and those darn things could nearly maim ya… Happy happy times for me though.. appreciate every vid you do bc you never know what good memories you will spark in someone else. Why dont kids go barefoot anymore? We couldn't stand wearing shoes in tthe south in the summer.

I love the taste of Hickery Nuts. I have so many Hickery Nut trees. I make Hickery UT wreaths. You can hot glue the nuts on vine wreaths. They are so pretty, only put them on your doors when the weather could because the heat will melt the hot glue.
