High pitch noises hurt their very sensitive ears. My doggies are like that too, all three of them. Even the noise of the kids on skate boards outside hurts them.
The round pottery piece is definitely a butter / cheese dish with a domed lid. You should see if the pottery has any markings or if your mom happens to know the brand because I think it would look awesome to find a few of the matching plates and bowls to use for styling purposes on the floating shelves in your kitchen once the remodel is finished. I would consider Centro Garden to be what is called a "Variety Store" here in the US (basically it is a store where they carry a variety of different types of items ~~ makes sense when you think about it).
