June – the way I get sticky label residue off stainless steel, glass, etc is to use rubbing alcohol. (The higher the % of alcohol, the more effective it is. I use 91% rubbing alcohol with great success.)
Pour a little rubbing alcohol on a plain dishtowel and rub the sticky area. The resiue will dissolve and leave the surfact completely clean.
June, for the roasted chestnuts, you just have to cut an X through the top and inner skin and then roast it in the oven. Like that, they will peel very easy.
I just love Fred

Did you try rubbing alcohol on the labels? I have even used oil to get the labels off. A razor to scrape. I love that you reuse the jars!!
