    Happy Birthday!!!
On the split pea soup, I mean nothing beats a ham hock, but I went through experimentation on split pea soup without meat.

I did a fragrant vegetable broth (which you can make from the parts of your veggies you discard usually, including onion skins) & adding non-traditional seasonings like bay leaves & kitchen bouquet. My powerhouse for excellent flavor is cardamom and cumin in soups, but I haven't added it to split pea soup yet, but I think it's worth a shot. When I make my split pea soup veggie, I add potatoes because I like it thick. Since you're ok with meat, I also did a version using just beef and chicken broth in a 1:1 ratio with no meat pieces. Happy experimenting!

Joy on your Birthday! Thank you for not growing up and then sharing it. I fry shallots in butter and add chicken drippings and chicken bone broth to split pea soup. Loved the sweet tater cakes!!💚🏜️🌵💚Joy from the Mojave Desert.

Great recipes! Love hearing about how people are living a minimalist lifestyle, also.
There are thousands of Instant Pot recipes out on Pinterest. Not sure how long you cooked your pasta, but from what I hear from other I.P. users is that whatever the pasta box directions say, half that time, then subtract a minute. I literally found a recipe of how to do it the first time. It's taken me awhile to learn new and cool ways to cook in the pressure cooker. I was scared to even take the pitbout of the box for 2 months. 🤣
I found this link about the cost of using a pressure cooker vs. other ways of cooking.

Happy Birthday. Everything looks delicious. Maybe less ham shank and a bay leaf? I love the flavor of the ham shank with split pea soup. I add some fresh chopped garlic to mine also. Not a lot but a little for flavor. Stay safe and enjoy your day.

#2 I love your fanny pack!
#3 I love doing pasta in my instant pot. I've found that most pastas do well at 4 minutes pressure cook time and quick release, but make sure to keep a towel handy. It can spit out starchy water sometimes. Also I just use regular American Beauty in there. I tried a brown rice pasta and it was noooooo bueno.

Pasta in the InstantPot for has a little learning curve but it turns out really well! Don’t give up.

I do half the time on the box plus a minute then release the pressure with a towel nearby because it can spit out water. I also season the pasta water or broth with garlic or onion powder so that flavor gets infused with the pasta. Jeff from pressure luck cooking: has good advice for rice and pasta.

Jeff’s Rice is 1:1 rice to liquid ratio then three minutes high pressure with a 10 minute rest before releasing pressure.

I make split pea soup often without the meat. I's absolutely necessary to add liquid smoke or smoked paprika to the broth while cooking. I will also add a bit of smoked paprika to my veggie and bean burgers. Processed foods are not often on my shopping list if I can help it
