Lol, this cabbage dish was a staple in my household growing up…I thought only my family ate this….I still eat it! Just mix it up with the meat choices…Ground beef, bacon, breakfast sausage, ground pork, chicken, sliced up Polska kielbasa.

Doesn’t get any better than this!!
I have a confession. At the beginning of this video when you show the end result of this fabulous dish, I’m sitting here 🤔 wondering why on earth you’d serve this delicious dish with a side of chocolate pudding!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate pudding and yours looked so SMOOTH and chocolatey. As I continue watching, I discover your ‘pudding’ is actually the smoothest side of beans I’ve ever seen!! 😂 😊

If you want/need a lid, please remember your local thrift stores. Just measure your pan, and don’t forget a way to measure any lids you find. Even a piece of paper with the diameter marked.

Steph,I know what it's like not having a lid for my large cast iron skillet. I got creative… pizza pan or cookie sheet! I've since found a lid second hand so now I don't need a pan to be a lid!

My family makes something similar using soy sauce as main flavoring while cooking the meat. Gotta try with cumin next time! Another way my family cooks this is using chiote instead of cabbage, maybe give that a go to see if your family likes that combo! Thanks again for another great vid!

Views on the Road, feel free to try, cast iron skillet is best, no need to give my name, preferred if you don't, just say a 4th generation Floridian. I love to share good food!🥰

Also try cabbage Southern style as a side dish, put cabbage sliced thinly in a pan with bacon grease if you want it to be banging, some other grease or oil if you want it to be ok, caramelize it so the sugars come out,add onions once the soft parts of the cabbage are slightly translucent but the hard stem areas are glistening but still a solid color, everything will caramelize together. The sweet and savory flavor is amazing. If you use bacon grease, only flavor with salt and pepper, if using a non animal oil, use salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, cumin, and red pepper flakes💕

My mom has been doing this with cabbage onions and beef, or bokchoy onions and beef, other veggies that look close to being shady were always invited, but we had to eat with chop sticks, I'm a chop sticks pro now. She also took me and my kids for sushi since we were little. Kids under the age for sushi can have cooked sushi options, ittle bittles, the sushi place will give you miso soup with rice and sea weed so they're used to those amazing umami flavors!💕

Our family will cook the ground beef and cabbage seasoned with salt and pepper let cool. when cool roll out fresh bread dough and put the ground beef mixture inside and close up and bake in the oven which we call kraut burgers. There are many names for this and it is a german dish.
