I have have mine in trhe oven now. I didn't have the cornmeal mix so I just added baking powder and salt. Can't wait it to be done. I have a big pot of chili simmering on the stove. Love your channel! Thanks

    Made it this evening.
These folks in south Alabama like the deep fried dallops of cornmeal not real cornbread.
First thing i did was make me a glass of hot cornbread and sweet milk.
    Thank you.

That is how my mama cooked it. I grew up on cast iron skillet corn bread and not sweet Johnny cake. We put it in a glass of milk for a snack. We broke it up in purple hull peas, and about anything like greens and beans! Good stuff!

One thing I miss about my mama is her cooking! This is how she made it and I could NEVER perfect it like she did. Going to try it but I am having the hardest time finding the exact cornmeal mix. All I can seem to find is the Martha White "Hot Rise". Is that the same thing? I'm in south ga if that helps. Thanks for any input you may have.

Ive always heated my cast iron skillet in the oven while its pre-heating then..added about 2 T. of shortening on the bottom…It melts right away…. & my cornbread mix & it will always be crispy on the bottom & sides…

Tammy, Chris and Malissa…Y'all are AWESOME!! Don't hate me but, stay true to yourself…that music just doesn't fit your sunshiny, fun personality. Just my personal opinion. 😉😊❤

Hey Tammy, it's Kim from Lexington, North Carolina!❤ Having these videos of recipes in your cookbooks is awesome cause we can see how you make them. Example: The consistancy of your batter and the end result.

I'm a senior citizen. Since I was a very young girl, the most wonderful thing I can think of is a large (tall iced tea) glass full of crumbled warm corn bread and filled with ice cold milk! That will solve most any problem and cure what ails you! TFS and stay safe! 🌈🌈🌈

I don't know why? But I always put my mix into a really hot skillet
This isn't necessary is it? I am going to try your way

    It is easier your way

Have you or would you consider making a video on how you clean/care for your cast iron skillet. Also re-seasoning and cleaning for ones that have been neglected. Thanks! Enjoy your post.

I just love to watch you cook. Raised in a Black family, I've never seen a real "White" southern cook. Sweetie, Paula Deen ain't got nothing on you. I've decided to buy your cookbooks. From one southern to another….you're the best. GOD bless you and your family.

Sugar belongs in cake not cornbread lol. We are a house divided at my house my hubby likes it sweet. I don’t and I cook it so it doesn’t get sugar lol. When he wants sweet he makes jiffy haha. Add a big old dwallop of mayo into the mix and it makes it sooooo moist.

I have always used whitelily cornmeal and flour self rising of course that’s what I started using when I set up my first kitchen at 19 yrs old and I love it. My mama’s recipe called for yellow corn meal, flour, egg, oil, baking soda and powder, milk. She always put the skillet on the eye with oil in it heating while she mixed it. Hers was a tad more liquid than yours, and when she poured it in, you heard the sizzle start for that crust! Our crust was a deeper color than yours which may have because of the yellow meal, and she used the smaller skillet for her pones, but that may have been because there were only 4 sitting down to supper. TFS.
