I canned four varieties of beans with no flavorings. I guess I'm not too picky about my beans, but if I eat them with ketchup, onion and a piece of cornbread, I'm a happy camper! I'm just saying beans are pretty decent on the plain side, too.

Your cereals are so cheap. I passed up on those Frosted Flakes today at Walmart because they were almost $6 a box. I live in DC and even going into Maryland we still cannot find prices as low as yours. That bread is over $2 and the eggs are almost $3 a dozen. There is no way we could eat healthy for as low as you.

I do not qualify for food stamps even though I do not have $50 for groceries because the interest rate on my bills has gone up so much in one year.. I found out that you can slice cabbage and chop it up and fry it like you would hash browns and get a lot of vitamin K

The cost of the loaf of bread at the store includes the fuel to cook it. 25 minutes of fuel in your oven has a cost, plus the yeast and the parchment paper. It’s probably closer to 50¢ – 60¢ a loaf. If you’re a minimum wage earner trying to make rent and utilities it might actually be cheaper, all things considered, to buy the cheap whole wheat or white bread for $1.32 a loaf. You probably don’t have bread pans and parchment paper. All that said, a trip to the thrift store or hitting some yard sales for pans and using oil instead of parchment paper, making your own bread is a great skill! Making noodles is too! Chicken and noodles with a bag of frozen mixed veggies would be a cheap dish. Walmart sells a 10 pound bag of chicken quarters at about 70¢ a pound. The backs and skins are attached, and they can be used to make stock. I think a pound of carrots, 5# of potatoes, 10# of chicken, 10# of flour, 7 bananas, a plastic box of power greens (better yet grow some kale, spinach, chard in a pot on the porch), 10 packages of yeast, 2 dozen eggs, 1/2 gallon of milk, a pound of cheese, a pint of oil, 2 pounds of beans, 2 pounds of rice, 3 pounds of onions, 5 cans of tomato sauce, a big bunch of bananas, a jar of peanut butter, a big jar of jam, a tub of oatmeal, a pound of brown sugar and a pound of butter would feed me for a month! $50? Someday I’m going to try it!

Do you (or anyone in the comments!) have suggestions for how to like beans?!?! I have Celiac's and high cholesterol, so beans seem like an affordable and healthy addition to my diet. However, I am very particular about the texture of food. I just don't know that I can handle all the squishiness… SEND HELP thanks!

Made your no knead bread for the first time today. I served it with dinner and it was a huge hit. Extremely easy to make. I did have to add a couple extra tablespoons of water. I would guess that's probably due to a difference in altitude and humidity from where you live. Thanks for a great recipe!
