Absolutely great dish and very easy to make. Substituted green beans for the celery, but otherwise made it exactly as recommended. My very fussy eater wife had it for dinner two nights running and lunch a further two days out. Winner.

This was a real fantastic and soulful meal like what Donal said. and I am from Singapore. First attempt to this dish and was a triumphant and warmth the heart of my family during the lockdown 🙂 Thank you Donal.

I don't understand salting ingredients before you can even taste it. I thought you were supposed to finish a dish with salt it things like herbs and pepper need to cook a little to maximize flavor. Anyone else cook like this?

Wish I could like this video more than once. This recipe is so so so so delicious! I actually seared the dumplings in a hot pan until its golden brown before finishing it off in the pot. And to the dumpling, instead of chives, I put flat leaves parsley and a bit of dill. And also instead of salt I added the parmigiano reggiano. Super tasty! Just make it, don't hesitate, totally worth it.

I made this yesterday. It turned out very well. I can definitely taste the fat in it. I probably added too much butter at the second stage and accidentally used too little buttermilk but it did come out very taste. Cooking the chicken took longer than I had hoped but it turned out great all in all. I was surprised how delicious it was. It's a great recipe! Thank you for doing the video on it.

What can I substitute if we can't find western style buttermilk where I am? "Buttermilk" in India is quite different to what I've used in Europe and the States.
Thanks for this simple, DELICIOUS looking dish…and for your channel!

Omg!! This recipe is amazing. I make it about twice a week my family can't get enough plus if you leave it in the fridge over night the chicken becomes more infused with all that loveliness. Thankyou xx

I work at a youth home, where at times I have to cook for upwards of 14 people.

I have used this recipe twice.
Both times I was disappointed as there was none left for me the next day. 🙁

Everyone loved this stew and cheddar dumplings. It was a huge hit. Plan to make it again this week.

Thanks for the easy and great recipe.

Made this yesterday night and added five cloves of chopped garlic (which we first sautéed on medium for a bit), one inch of ginger Julian sliced, and replaced chives in the balls for finely diced red onions. Added paprika and Cayenne for Chef John. Then slow cooked the whole thing on hi for four hours. Turned out amazing! So much flavour!

I almost wish a big snow would come and keep us in so I could make this, curl up on the couch with a good movie and eat to my hearts content. But, alas, I’m in Texas. So I’ll just have to make this delicious looking meal and imagine a snowy winters night.
