Hi Jess, its been awhile since I was last on your channel. I have finally reached my goal weight of 69kgs – 70 kgs and now I am trying to work on getting toned now. I cannot fit very many of clothes anymore apart from a couple of items and even my swimming togs are a size 16 are too big and it's summer here lol.

I just started a low-carb diet on Jan 3rd. I'm morbidly obese and a Type 2 Diabetic. I allot 50 carbs/day and I do 16:8 intermittent fasting. I eat one whole medium size grapefruit everyday (which is half of my daily carbs). I just checked for the first time and I'm in ketosis. I think it's pretty important to look at the Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load of foods and then experiment to see what works with your body. I've been on and off low-carb (i.e., 20 carbs/day) diets all of my adult life and the food restrictions sunk me everytime. But being able to eat that grapefruit, along with homemade yogurt with sugar-free preserves, doesn't make me feel deprived.

I’m pretty sure 50g of carbs per day is still considered keto….. so I don’t see what the fuss is about. If 50g works for you – that’s all that matters.

Hi Jess: I've been overweight my entire adult life, and have tried multiple and varied weightloss programs. Yes, they worked, but none of them was really sustainable. I discovered Keto in May 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, just after I had created a low-carb eating program for myself (based on the My 600-lb. Weight TV program) and was losing weight on it. Once I understood Keto, I stuck with it. Nearly 2 years later, I am still on Keto, with the weight off (nearly 98 lbs. down) and no physical exercise (I do need to start walking). I do not worry about whether I am in ketosis. I simply ensure that I eat no more than 20 net grams of carbs daily — all from vegetables and berries — while I cut all sugar, flour, and processed foods. For protein, I eat 3 eggs daily, and mostly any kind of poultry or seafood. I drink flavored seltzer water and/or almond milk. And I fast intermittently (2 meals per day – breakfast at 9:30, then dinner by 4:00 pm.). In short, I keep it simple, by cooking one big meal on the weekends and letting it last all week. It's been a money-saver and a time-saver for me. I do not engage in any weightloss gimmicks or food deprivation eating plans, except for an occasional green smoothie or green juice cleanse. We all need that at times. When I lay in bed at night, I can always tell when my body is in ketosis, because I get that quivering feeling for several long minutes all over my body. To me, that's a signal that my body is feeding off of my stored fat cells. Invariably, the following morning, I am down a few ounces in weight. This morning, for instance, I was down a solid 2 lbs. since last night. No kidding. Yes, my weight fluctuates some, but I always know when it will increase, because I ate the wrong stuff the day before. But I can always jump right back on Keto and start seeing results again. I try to stay consistent, which is the reason I do not participate in your monthly challenges. Not that anything is wrong with what you do; I only know that consistency, no matter how boring, works best for me. Keep on trucking. You got there before; you can get there again. I plan to keep watching your channel, so we can get to our goal weight together. I believe I am the same weight as you are now. Best of luck. I truly like your channel, and I like you!!

You do you…..does not work for me. I don’t want to keep regaining and then go back to dieting once again. I have maintained a whole year without feeling restricted. One needs to know their own body and proceed accordingly. At 72 and with Hashimotos, I needed to stop listening to others and find out what worked for me. I hope this works for you! Good subject today.

I want to see someone lose weight eating real food,, bread etc. You are still restricting yourself . Sitting around snacking on HAWAIIAN ROLLS will not lose weight . That's the real life diet. You keep talking about restrictions did you in. Well I see restrictions still going on.

Ketosis can certainly happen independently of being on the keto diet. I get into ketosis all the time while fasting. No specific diet needed. hahahaha I also believe the Optavia program puts people into a mild ketosis but I don't believe it considers itself a "keto" diet.

When you are doing your tricep pushdowns keep your elbows tucked by your ribs. Almost pretend you pinned your arms to your side, keep the shoulders still and focus extending your arm down. You will be better focus on just the tricep. You can lean forward at the hip also a little and brace yourself with your core in a split stance it can able you to push more weight.

I love what you're doing Jess. I recall reading in one of Dr. Atkins early books: "once you reach goal you can start adding about 10 g of carbs back into your diet each week, but you must cut back if your weight loss stops or you start gaining.

Love your channel and YOU! I love your honesty about the REALITY of a weight loss journey.
I don't know if you are doing a HIIT program for your exercises in THIS video?

Have you tried to work out or at least just jump on a mini trampoline for several minutes?
What a workout it is and it so beneficial for your lymphatic system – maybe the trampoline can take the place of standing in place exercise you were doing in this video? Great video. 😊💖

You are my go-to for inspiration! I don’t want to overstep but I would like to give some weight training tips. Mind/Muscle connection is key. Standing lat pulldown—straight arms, feel those lats work; Standing tricep pushdown—lock elbows in to your sides. Weight training has been key to helping me with weight loss and maintenance. If you’d prefer I not give tips on training just let me know. Thanks again for helping all of us!

I’m not traditional keto either. I’m very low carb 20 or less and most of the time 10 or less because of my previous type 2 diabetes history but I always eat high protein! I keep my PSMF protein macros from my lean days even on my higher fat days . Most people think that the protein will turn in to glucose, I have not seen that be the case with my body. I still stay in ketosis and a lot of times I’m at a 1 or better on the keto mojo meter! In my opinion any diet is keto if your still in a ketogenic state… keto is the metabolic state not the diet! Thanks for sharing!

Ketosis doesn't mean you'll lose weight. I'm almost always in a low level of ketosis (around 0.6-0.8) with about 50g net carbs but I've been gaining weigh …

Yea I did 50 carbs a day for awhile. I still considered myself keto because I was in Ketosis. I also think being on regular keto macros for so long before hand made me fat adapted. So that could be why later I could eat more carbs and stay in ketosis.

This “20” to stay in ketosis, where is that number from? Is it 20 total or net carbs? I am skeptical just a tad because they keep changing it. It was always 80, I can’t help but wonder who is coming up with these numbers? Great video Jess, your attitude is inspiring, and again, so thankful this is not sponsored…. keep up the great work, I’m here cheering you on from New England!! 📣

I'm so glad you're doing well! I lost all my weight with low carb, before I discovered keto. I did keto for about 6 months, but like you, I was eating too many keto treats, and didn't get to my goal, actually went the other way- we're on a parallel journey here, lol😊 Low carb can absolutely keep you in ketosis, as we all have our own threshold that works for us- "being keto", I think is a misnomer, as eating correctly for YOU to be in ketosis IS keto, rather than this or that food, or number. I personally belive the 20 carbs you refer to is simply the lower end that is suggested as most people can get into ketosis at that level and once the body is fat adapted, it's easy to raise the carb level and stay in ketosis, as you've just proven. There is a pair of doctors I watch that have such different metabolisms that she can eat over 60 carbs and stay in ketosis, but 10 knocks him out! Crazy! 🥰❤

Ketosis is all about carb intake, not the name of the diet. What is now known as the keto diet used to be the Atkins diet and many years prior to that, the mayo diet (it was not associated with the Mayo Clinic).
