So Good to see Y'all enjoying the warmer weather south of the Idaho border. The scenery is very familiar and I'll swear I've camped in the exact same location. I'm hoping you can Wrangle more time in the High Desert of Nevada & Arizona? Many treks have been held back due to the price of fuel and we are All suffering from this bummer. I do spend more time in any one place to conserve and have made the best of it by exploring deeper into the surroundings and finding even More Goodies. Rick, Linda, are you going to make it down into Arizona this fall??? The Temps are Perfect now, and soon the campfire restrictions will be lifted. More to share and Lots to say. Keep me posted, ok. 👌

Thanks, Rick, for this very interesting post! Beautiful scenery, thought-provoking and you and Linda's style of humor is FUN!!!! I have no idea why there seems to be an optical illusion with objects sitting out in open spaces. Kinda spooky, for sure! Enjoy your travels, stay safe and I'll see ya on the next one!!

Rick, you spoke about your Garmin for having communication when hiking. That made me think about something I learned while boondocking in Colorado this summer (you may already know this)…if you have a cell phone with Wifi Calling capability you can make cell phone calls over your StarLink Wifi. A near by camper let me on his StarLink WiFi and I made several calls that I would have had to drive many miles to cell service to make. It worked great! Won’t help on hikes, but can be very handy in camp.

Great video! I appreciate the conjecture of who, what and when, made the burrows, left the arrowhead or flakes, burned the ground, dropped the ladder out of the landing craft, 😂, etc. My folks used to take advantage of those opportunities on the trail to spin a yarn for us kids. We lived in a rock and concrete cabin with a spring fed cistern for 6 months in 1960. No electric. Dad had just gotten on the Kern County Sheriff’s Department in Mojave, CA, and the pay was poor! We had 2 propane lights, stove and fridge. We were so poor that we ate wild birds and mom bought cracked eggs from the grocer in her weekly shopping trip. He sold them very cheap to her. She fed a family of 5 on $10 a week. I have great memories of playing in the desert, pretending to be an “Indian” and hiking around. I do have to express thanks to the KCSO. Over Dad’s career the pay got better and when he retired he and Mom were blessed with medical benefits and a pension to their death. Job security was a thing!

Loved to hear the wind through the pines at that one point in your video, first time I was in the pines as a kid, it was almost scary, it is a very loud blowing sound, but it was neat and I never will forget it.

No question about it, it was a spacecraft, the gap in footage, when you were abducted, was a dead giveaway, LOL. Thankfully they returned you to Earth so that we can continue to enjoy your excellent and informative videos!

Beautiful closing shot. I drove from Idaho to Virginia coast and back in my suburban camping the whole way. Not paying for hotels paid my fuel. All fuel was cheaper heading east from Idaho. It got cheaper and cheaper as I went. The way to travel now is look on gas buddy. The states that have the lowest fuel have lots of things to go see. Save the west for another year.

Well, you are in our old stomping grounds. Large Burrows you are seeing have probably been made by Badgers then occupied by other wildlife. My husband is a retired geologist in the beautifully state Nevada and you and Linda are doing our favorite pastime. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much.

It's probably just a matter of perspective. Try setting a beer can on the hood of your truck, walk out 50 yards and see what you think about it in comparison to the size of your truck that you are familiar with. Then set another beer can where you are standing, walk back to your truck and see what you think of it with no objects of known size to compare it to. I've been trained to be a shooter since I was a little kid being raised mostly by my grandad who was an old cowboy, US marshal for awhile and gunslinger. Then the Marines, then doing some spook work for the government and a couple stints doing private military. I can pretty much eyeball range objects out to 500 yards just by the way the muscles feel in my eyes while settling on a full 3d image with both eyes so I have never really experienced that effect. Just not having any objects of known size to compare it to in the sticks can create the illusion of it being large since it is the predominate thing catching your eye is what I suspect.

Not a lot of turnouts on that road.
Where you camped, there's a fire ring. Hard to believe anyone would have a fire out there. Is it not as dangerous as it appears?
Your hat. Love it. Who makes it?
The size question, I would think it has to do with light reflection. Do darker/non reflective objects also appear larger?
    Great video. Thx.

Interesting landscape. None of that up here and the lightly forested area you camped at, was very zen. Nice watch on a Friday evening. I've seen a few Lake Mead videos early this summer and so how far were you from there? Cheers from Ontario..
