Our grocery bill has grown by 25% in the last 3 months (Ohio, USA). Thanks for the great ideas. If you eat a lot of PB, try to buy the ones that only have peanuts and salt. Lots add palm oil, sugar, and a lot of unhealthy ingredients.

Very useful video but I did have to look up grits! My pantry staples are tinned tomatoes for sauces, beans (uk baked beans, tinned beans, dried beans), rice and soy sauce.

While some produce prices might go down, many that are grown abroad will continue to rise as global warming is having a devastating effect on crops, and has been for years; which means we, in the West, have been eating things like wheat, rice, fruit, and veg etc (and coffee, at least until new farmland has been created in the areas that now/will have the right temperment) in the same way without acknowledging that overall there are less of these in the world. This was always going to be an issue, but with Covid, fuel prices (and Brexit for those in the UK) have effectively sped up how quickly it's affecting us.

For those who do prefer meat in their meals, I find a mix of meat and lentils (stretches the meat a long way) and keeps the flavour and texture. For seasonings, adding ground cumin gives food an instant Mexican vibe.

Prices going sky high here in UK too. Pantry staples for me are pastas, rice, flours, sugars. All types of lentils and beans. I do use frozen veg on occasion but mainly just peas. I find not much flavour in frozen type. I must get to grips with those though. Definitely better value due to no waste. Thanks for another great video.

I don't know if it's the same where you are, but try looking for quinoa in the international aisle of the grocery store. In the regular rice section, quinoa is $5 for a small packet whereas I was able to get a one-pound bag for $5 (on sale) in the international aisle recently.

Lard is in our larder. We prefer natural fats, but butter has skyrocketed in price. So….I've brought back lard. It's shelf stable and can be used for baking and cooking. It leaves the butter for spreading on those delicious things. I can buy 3 pounds of lard for the cost of 1 pound of butter, so it's a great thing for us.

BTW the toy price increases are CRAZY. Sorry but I will never drop $75-80 on most of the toys in that range but something that was $10-20 is now $20-40 ! Insane.

My HOA bans gardening plus I live in a desert, so I also buy lots of canned goods such as Italian seasoned petite diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, canned veggies, canned mushrooms (also, I don't can but the fact I don't garden kinda gives that away!) Cereals are a pantry staple, too, even though we don't make meals with them, we all like cereal so we ALWAYS have usually 2 varieties on hand.

Easy pancake mix, preferably the just add water kind. It can really be a life saver when the day turns on a dime or I'm under the weather! Nothing wrong for pancakes for dinner with some fruit or such.

I got lentils on the most recent grocery run. Due to health issues we do have a LOT of cooking spices as salt is something we don't use often. We use frozen vegetables. "Hardly" knowing something is there means to my family they notice and don't like it. 🙁 We have certain dietary needs and also multiple food allergies. Eggs being one allergy although he can't physically touch eggs without getting welts he can eat them in things. I guess we are picky eaters we hate spinach and we won't eat certain textured foods like quinoa. If someone can tell me how to change the texture of quinoa I'd be all for trying it again. Maybe I can find some ways to fix things we don't like such as quinoa (texture issue).
