    Lovely recipe! I am curious about the sugar, which I see added in small amounts to many Chinese recipes. Does the sweetness remain in the final dish or does it somehow just enhance flavors? I cannot eat sugar, so would leaving it out negatively affect the outcome? If a sweet taste is desired, can an artificial sweetener be used instead?

    As soon as I saw this recipe I knew I had to make it! It was SO worth the extra prep time, it was amazing!! The flavors were different from anything I've made before, but work so well together! I bought everything for it including the chu hou paste, which really made a difference. I always love these recipes, but this is definitely a new favorite! My family's only request is that I double the recipe next time! 😃
