Thanks for this. Had some left over beans and ham, remembered eating bean cakes at a friend's house 40 years ago. Went looking for a recipe, and yours popped up. Looks just like what his mom made, can't wait to try them.

These remind me of "gadu doyu" or "gadu doyi" aka "Cherokee bean bread", just with corn meal (I don't know if there's self rising corn flour though) they look delicious. Umma hafta try the way you do 'em though.

I always have some leftover bread that I crumble/cut into a tray then bake. I crumble it into bread crumbs that I sprinkle on those types of cakes. Mackerel, salmon & potato cakes. The city folk will laugh but I also like Sardine cakes.

I bet this guy is a millionaire and we get the impression he is just stretching out food to make meals. I switched to plant based and am going to find some wheat flour and use it with left over northern beans. This really looks good.

Soup beans was one of our staple meals growing up. I didn't care much for beans when I was a kid (I do now), but I loved those bean cakes! Now any time I mention bean cakes to other folks they look at me like I'm crazy! My Mamaw also added cornmeal to hers and I always liked a little salt and pepper on them. I grew up in southern Kentucky.

Thank you for posting this sir mom used to make these the next day after the bean meal from the night before i loved em and she passed away before telling me how she did hers. But since you posted this i have been able to almost duplicate hers now. It took me a few tries until i got the potato cakes right but now its a regular thing for me.

I'm only 20 yrs old and I grew up eating them because my parents did, instead of tater pancakes we just added cooked taters to bread dough which I grew up calling them "fried bread" and "bean flitters"

Excellent video, and I will make some bean cakes tonight. While dumpster diving last night I found a can of refried beans and will put it to good use. I really enjoyed your personality and voice; a far cry from the low life governor and mayor of New York City. There are times I beleive my life would be happier living in West Virginia. I send my best regards to you and the folks of W. Virginia.

With bean cakes I add Hickory nuts. I am lucky to have them wild all around me. Takes to time to crack and pick the nuts from shell….but so worth it. It's like a Midwest gourmet meal. These fancy restaurants ain't got a thing on me!

I really like cooked dried beans, any kind. I had some navy beans cooked with smoked meat leftover and tried your recipe for Bean Cakes from leftover pinto beans. I only had enough for one large bean patty. I've never thought to try this, now instead of beans once a month I make them twice a month so that I can make fried bean patties. Really good, thanks for sharing.
