Too bad you didn't follow the simple fundamentals of cooking and building flavors. With onion in recipes you always want to cook them and get the sweet flavor out of them, same with the bacon you want to render the fat down. But good idea in all gonna do it tonight.

There's sugar in the beans, there's sugar in the tomato sauce and then add more sugar? No, no, no. Fry onion and bacon together, fry some green pepper til soft, then add baked beans in same pan and heat up. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top before serving.

I was thinking the same thing if you don't start off what's rendering the bacon you're going to have soggy crappy bacon also some bell pepper in their is good especially the red

Ketchup? LMAO. If you did this with anything but Bushโ€™s Baked Beans it would be believable. Plus the fact that you didnโ€™t sautรฉ the onions and cook the bacon prior to mixing everything together.

Definitely brown the bacon and add the onion for the last few minutes until the onion becomes translucent. Remove most of the fat, not all of it and add it into the beans. Add the rest of your ingredients and bake. Major flavor upgrade with the cooked bacon and onion. Great overall recipe. Great presentation. Mr Snider, you are a keeper. ๐Ÿ™‚

Don't get me wrong here I have some comfort food recipes that I make that would contradict everything I am about to type. I suggest carmalizing the bacon and onions together on high heat for at least a couple minutes first. Using smoked bacon will void the need for the liquid smoke and I would skip the tomato flavored corn syrup.

My mother-in-law did this with regular old pork and beans 65 years ago, but she didn't use any bacon or onions. She just plopped in a big gob of butter along with the French's mustard, Heinz ketchup, and brown sugar. Deeeeeelicious and faster than Iowa lightning. I've also tried this with those Bush's canned baked beans, and for whatever reason, the Maple version is not good IMHO. I'd concentrate on the other flavors of these beans, and I think you'll be much happier.
