I think you can use that “dehydrate” tray can also be used for the broil function.
The black plastic pad is to be turned over so you protect your counter from the heating element on the LID.
And the advisory not to plug in anything else into the outlet (i suggest any outlet on the same circuit) is to protect your circuit from getting overloaded and tripping your circuit.

We just got our lid recently too and it's the best addition! Hoping to dehydrate some not-so-great grapes into some kind of leather soon.

You can pound meat with the bottom edge of a bottle, such as an oil bottle or empty wine bottle when a meat pounder isnt available.
Eye of round steak strips for jerky. And marinate them first. Teriyaki is a really good marinade. You can get the butcher to cut it thin for you.
