Those of you saying you do not qualify to go to a food bank I say you need to Google "ASPE and HHS 2023 poverty guidelines" and you will see the federal poverty guidelines by the number of family members in your household. If your foodbank has any monetary requirements that is what it will go by with a few exceptions such as recent loss of income due to a job loss, struggling to go back to work after the pandemic, disability, child with a disability in the home and a parent giving to stay home to give care, newborn in the house, and many more that will have you still qualifying even if your family is above the 2023 poverty guidelines. FOIDBANKS ARE A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. THEY HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BE CHARGED FOR ANY FOOD THEY DO NOT GIVE AWAY AND HAVE TO THROW IT AWAY. SO IF YOUR FAMILY IS IN THE 2923 POVERTY LEVEL OR LOWER YOU SHOULD BE SIGNING UP FIR THE FOOD BANKS!!

There’s absolute no shame in going to a food bank – I’d encourage anybody whose struggling to do so. Don’t go though if your just looking to save a bit of cash – other people do need it more. My local bank struggles to feed everybody and where I live you need referred by your doctor or social services etc , you can’t just roll up. There were to many people just being greedy.

I stayed at a B&B in Orkney, Scotland where the proprietress made rhubarb marmalade. It was delicious! I don't even like rhubarb and I was delighted that we had two breakfasts there. I'm glad your foodbank just invites people in with the design on using everything that's perishable. And everyone deserves cake now and then. It's awesome they had one with lots of flowers so all the kids could have that delightful sugar high. That's the joy of store bought cake, sugary icing flowers (and butterflies)!

I wish our food banks here have the wonderful food you get. Sadly I have gotten more then once old expired food, dented cans of food no one wants and hardly ever get proteins. Your food banks bless their residents greatly!!

I harvested 10 pounds of rhubarb from my patch last week! I made rhubarb barbeque sauce and also rhubarb simple syrup (you can use it like regular syrup or even put it in drinks) and I canned them both. And of course I gave some away as well. The syrup was AMAZING…highly recommend. The recipe only called for rhubarb, water and sugar, but I added some cinnamon and Mexican vanilla and it is so good!!
I love that you show different ways to use your food pantry items.

Carolina, i use my food group here and love it. It really helps as a senior citizen. Some other avenues for people is to also search for a gleaning group that also gives people another resource. Also if a person is over 65 they can also check for a USDA food box. I think if a person can google usda and it will tell about this program. Your foodbank should be connected with this program or know how to connect to it for seniors.

When I first went to the food bank I thought people would judge me for having an Apple Watch. I also felt a little bit guilty. I’m the kind of person that would always go without for somebody else. But the reality is I lose my phone 100 times a day and I ended up having an emergency with my 1.5 year old and couldn’t find my phone. Talk about shear panic. After that my husband surprised me with an Apple Watch so I could find my phone and dial 911 if needed. Every time I look at my watch I think about how panicked I felt while I was completely alone with no phone. People can judge all they want but they would never gather all that info from looking at me lol be humble and kind always 💕

I'm going to try the stuffed jalapeños. I have some that need to be used up.
The recipe I’m using calls for cream cheese, Mexican cheese mix and planko bread crumbs.
I read comments about it and there were suggestions to blanch them first. I’m going to try half with just the cream cheese and planko. See which I like best! Tomorrow is going to be a hot one so I’ll use the oven today.
I’ll let you know how they turn out. 😋

Homemade good food, another win! I wish I liked rhubarb, but to me it had a stringy texture to it and it grossed me out lol. Kind of like banana strings always make me turn a little green.

Preach, Carolina!!! Yes, if you’re hungry, if your too cold/hot, you can’t buy new clothes or shoes for growing kids, or pay for medications, and food has gotten so expensive…go to the local food bank!! Help save the planet!!! Feed yourself, your family. The food would be going in the trash. Maybe you have a student loan payment now due to whatever is happening with the government…that’s not cheap. Maybe you had to get a new car. Maybe you had a medical issue with lots of copays…you aren’t a slacker, you aren’t taking from others. If you feel guilty about it…do something you can to give back to someone else! Volunteer at the food bank, mow an elderly neighbors lawn, drive a friend who needs transportation to the store or similar. It’s stressful for many of us right now, and the help is there…and it won’t continue if people don’t use it!! P.S. Elsa is an awesome and perfect name for the “Frozen Dryer” 😁 Thanks again, Carolina!

That broccoli is awesome and we use to get chicken and steak fajitas from Albertsons they always had them buy 1 get 2 free we could really stretch it out because my kids were little now we have to have 3 pounds of meat except hamburger we only need 1.5 pounds. Dinner looked great. Have a great week Carolina.

Carolina, I had many packets of instant oatmeal laying in my pantry. I said to myself, "What would Carolina do?" Again, I said to myself, "She would make oatmeal cookies!" I had an unopened box of golden raisins in my pantry also. So, I made oatmeal raisin cookies with the instant oatmeal packets.

As always love your videos. My mom use to take rhubarb and jello and cook it down and put it on toast or biscuits. We like to take a 8oz cream cheese and put jalapeño jelly over it or any flavor for that matter and serve it with crackers. Next time I make a dump cake I will try the melted butter I've always sliced my sticks of butter and placed them on top of the cake mix. I love about your videos we can all share ideas and we can all learn new thing's. I will be 73 in July and still learn new thing's.

Great video Carolina! The stigma associated with going to food banks is very real sadly, with many people suffering in silence. I agree, it's so nice to see your kids faces light up when you bring home a special treat that is something you normally wouldn't be able to afford (and was destined to get wasted otherwise). You got some awesome stuff – love that big bag of broccoli!

Not all food banks are as liberal as yours. I’m in Montana also but our food bank has very strict income guidelines. I believe they are lower than the limit for food stamps. They only allow people to go once a month, and give 3-5 days worth of food. You are very fortunate.
