I made a black eyed pea soup similar to this recipe for work. Never made it before. It was okay, but I kept thinking it needed something else. It had bacon in it and I thought that maybe it should have some sausage in it. Well, your recipe confirmed my hunch. Next time I'll add sausage. Thank y'all for this recipe. Oh, Miss Lori. I've watched y'all for quite a while now and that aluminum colander is just like mine that was my granny's. The handles have come off but it's my favorite colander in my kitchen. 🤗
Haven't been keeping up with you and mr. brown… sure have missed your recipes and just watching and listening to you both… happy new year… i love you both… perfect couple… and perfect show
Ms Lori you like red pepoers cause of the color, u ain't foolin me!😁😂 Lol, just kidding! I prefer red ones more, too. Mmm, that casserole looks divine!😋👍 I'm catchin up on vids since my sweet middle son has been home for the holidays & his bday. It does a Mama's heart good!💖 God bless you guys!🙏🤗
like wilted greens do not care for cooked the casserole looked good I really don't like black eyed peas gonna try this up North here we do not do alot with peas , Dryed beans yes Blessings for the new year
I was so worried about y'all with the extreme weather that started in TX, came up through AR into TN and KY. I hope y'all are okay and didn't have any damage.
I love watching you and Mr. Brown cook together, Mrs. Lori. Not a fan of black-eyed peas but you made them look delicious! I love wilted greens salad! My dear Mom made it for us in summertime when we were growing up. Hope you and your loved ones have a happy, healthy, prosperous 2022! Blessings and hugs!
Sounds good. I make Hoppin John with left over Christmas ham and black eyed peas. For good luck for the new year. Of course we have greens for prosperity, and cornbread just because… well, cornbread! Happy new year you two!
I’ve got a whole huge bowl full of leftover black-eye’s peas with bacon from New Years Dinner. I’m going to do this only I’m going to use my recipe for Mexican cornbread and leave out the crushed tomatoes. The Mexican cornbread has rotel, green chilis, cream style corn and sour cream. I sometimes put cheese in the cornbread too.
Most folks around here, TN, eat collards but not me!! I prefer turnip greens, mustard, kale, and spinach, even mixed together. I wash and chop and then boil for about 15 minutes. My mom cooked greens to DEATH! I would stand at the stove as she put them into the high pot and I would take them out as she put them into the pot!! Yummy!! I like my cabbage cooked the same way with an added chopped onion and fastback for seasoning! Wel,l streak-o-lean is best. Frit the meat first and eat it with the cornbread…you are making me hungry like you always do!!
Your mic is not very loud on this video. i have my volume all the way up even though it is 2:30 Am and I live in an apartment building where everyone can hear one another! Oops! Spoke too soon; your volume came up and I had to hurry and turn mine down a bit! LOL This looks great. i live alone and just opened 2 cans of BE Peas, added some diced tomatoes with green chilies and pre-cooked bacon to that, and to the frozen spinach I cooked for about 10 minutes in the microwave. Cooked my cornbread during the night so I wouldn't have to do it for my dinner on the First of the New Year. It's hard to cook for one.
Not a big blackened pea lover either. I like purple hulls, field peas, zippers, crowders, anything like that. But this looks like a winner! Thank you so much for the recipe! Have a blessed 2020! ❤️❤️
Miss Lorie is a very, very wise lady, only wilt the greens, that way you maintain all the nutrients. What would be the point of even preparing greens if you are going to – first of all, drown the greens in water, then cook it to death and if that is not enough, throw away all the water with the few nutrients left in it if anything at all. I loved to feed my family responsibly and to the best of my ability with God's wonderful nutritional greens, perfectly created. Our bodies need greens every single day. I have a neat yardstick for what should be in your plate for at least one of your meals per day, it goes like this: green/s, yellow, one starch and meat, and when you feel like splashing, add a salad too, that would be a balanced meal. Just saying…….
I made this today for our New Year’s Day meal. Holy Cow! It was incredible. It will be a standby in my kitchen. I’m going to find a space in Ms Lori’s cookbook for it! Yummy!!
I've been seeing this recipe all over the web….and didn't think I would like it but after seeing you make it, sounds good….would even be good with chili or soup….maybe tomato soup…. I just cooked those peas today, and had Collard greens and corn bread muffins….really hit the spot…..so I might take the remainder peas and make a casserole, but I may just freeze the peas until I get to the store and pick up a lb. sausage, I have beef in the freezer, but I think the pork would be better, I prefer port to beef…….thanks for posting this….I may check out those other recipes and see if they did anything different than you did….. lol….so have a great 2022…..I sure hope it's better than the last one….
Ms Lori, you were on my mind and bringing me smiles tonight when we had our black-eyed peas. I've been sick for a week and could not get out to the grocery to get us any greens. I made your Party Spinach Dip (that counted as something green – right?!) and Homestead Fried Cornbread to go with our peas. The cornbread was a hit with my oldest grandson (who is not a fan of traditional cornbread). His preferred way to eat it……….dipped in the Spinach Dip! He said it was a keeper.
Lori, we just ate dinner & i made your black eyed pea casserole, it was so good !!! I did add sharp chedder to the cornbread & i also added some to the pea mixture. OOH so good !! The wind was blowing and the air crisp so i also put on a pot of chicken & dumplings . This was a hit with family. Im from the south & we eat our peas on New Years Day so thank you for a new way to serve them . I watch all your episodes & love the cabin before the change but i know you are happy with the new , I am happy Mr Brown takes good care of your needs & vice versa . Much love going to you both.
Good recipe! I made a blunder and poured off some of the juice. Made it a little dry. I am 77. Because of physical challenges, I have a difficult time staying on my feet long enough to do a recipe like this, so I might not make it again. Two things, for my taste, I would decrease cumin to 3/4 t. And I would definitely use two cans of black eyed peas. Thank you for your blog! I really enjoy it! God bless and have a blessed happy new year!
On the soup recipe I shared I used a can of Rotel instead of just plain green chiles. It was really a delicious and interesting soup.

You two are amazing! I pray that Mr. Dahl and I are as sweet on each other as you two at this point in your lives!!!
So, why is that top for the olive oil bottle necessary? Should I get one?

LOL I forgot I also added a packet of onion soup mix to the BE Peas and bacon and heated them for about 2-30 minutes. They were so good!!
