I'll bet another 5 minutes cook time would make your sauerkraut more to your liking.
My mother-in-law was Polish and she liked her kielbasa in bbq sauce (no kraut) in the Crock-pot. I'm hoping to make the same recipe in the IP.
I make it on the stove with potatoes and barley. But I have seen recipes with onions, carrots, and apples.
My family makes it exactly the same way you do except we use beer instead of water. And always pork and mashed potatoes! You just made me so hungry! Our family is of Italian and German decent but being from the Pittsburg area we had almost every other European ethnic backgrounds living as neighbors. So we ate alot of Serbian and Polish food along with Irish dishes. Coming from an immigrant city we never just ate Italian food. As a child we would eat at our friends house for dinner and be initiated into the dishes of their culture! No wonder I was a heavy kid ! Lol
I know why you;re smaking your lips cause of the sauerkraut. I've made mine in a pressure cooker where the lid got rusty around the steel inside – don't know why. I've had the dish that you presented but butter on the potatoes. This is one of my favorite dishes. I tuned in to find out your cooking time on the sausage and agree that I like the kraut softer where it turns abit off color, more tan looking. I use the leftovers to put on my hot dogs later in the week. Thanks for your information
Yes, there are few foods better than fresh kielbasa. I much prefer it over smoked, precooked kielbasa. My sister and I are avid sausage makers and would always make fresh kielbasa to celebrate our dad's birthday. It was one of his favorite foods.
There is no "poo" in kapusta. ๐
I make my kielbasa like you do except I add a quarter cup of barley and another half bottle of beer (one and a half in all, no water). If you have leftovers, heat it up the next day in a sauce pan and it will take all the crunch out of the sauerkraut.
Man-O-Man, I could wolf that dish down in about 2 minutes. Great vid. Thanks for sharing
I made this tonight! My husband and I loved it. The potatoes were fantastic with the sauerkraut juice on top.
I used Boar's Head kielbasa (probably not "real" kielbasa but pretty darn good) and 2 cups chicken broth. I didn't use sugar or a pork steak. The potatoes were made from scratch.
how many ounces of keilbasa did you use?
I am not a big fan of sauerkraut but I love a good kielbasa. And this looked absolutely delicious. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Not my thing Potpourri but I have to say you handle that sausage like a pro ๐
Is that from Franks? Your close by. may need to connect an network sometime in future.
Not a huge fan of kielbasa or sauerkraut but I always enjoy your videos. ๐
WOW!!! Excellent recipe my friend!!! I loved how you converted an old time recipe & brought into the 21 st century!!! I love that Instant Pot magic!!! This would have been great for the Instant Pot Weeknight Warriors Wednesdays My hubby would love this. TFS XOXO Happy cooking but better yet happy eatings
My mother in law used to make Polish sausage, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes all mixed together with lots of real butter in a crock pot. She and my father in law were both German. I loved that meal!
that look so delouse you made me so hungry great recipe ! like from me ๐
How long would you recommend leaving the kielbasa in the oven to bake? Does it need to be wrapped in foil? What temperature?
Ah, you have the real keibasa!!! I grew up in Bklyn, NY and had a lot of polish friends. We went to the butcher for our keilbasa and fresh sauerkraut๐
Flavorful
My grandmother used to make it a lot. AS a kid I didn't like it but now I do.
My mom would make potatoes sauerkraut and smash them together and serve it with a really nice true Kielbasa that she would boil with the potatoes. She is dutch and we would have that on Mondays and use the leftover gravy from Sunday dinner.
I like my kielbasa cooked by PrepperPotpourri ๐
Thanks for the share, PP.
Thx for the lessons and the bit of history
