I would say write out a month or even just two weeks of meal breakfast lunch dinner and then bulk buy as many of those ingredients as possible and more likely than not a few will over lap and you could make other things out of them that way you buy what you and your family eats

I just found Old Fashioned Oats (18 ounce can), in the clearance section at Walmart for 88¢ that are BB 10-2024 (got 8 of them).

I poured them in a quart mason jar, vacuum sealed it, and put it back in the original can & snapped the lid on.

Doesn’t get any better than that! ❤

When Covid first hit, two of my sons drove here (upstate NY) from out of state to grocery shop. Apparently, their stores were jammed with people coughing etc, elbow to elbow. When they got here, I told them to first go shopping in my store room (spare bedroom now pantry). That way, they didn't have to spend as much time in a store and only needed to get meat. They each left with a couple of full bags of canned food, enough to last a couple of weeks. I wasn't crazy when they got supplied from me, but now it seems like I have fallen back down the "rabbit hole" like my son likes to say.

We just purchased a freeze drier and I’m freeze drying all our tomatoes, cut them in fours put them on a tray and that’s all the work I have to do. Feeling blessed we had the money to purchase this gem!

Great haul. Cheap eating and so comforting: macaroni and tomatoes with salt, pepper and butter. My mom would make this and it was wonderful!

The question of what are we stocking up on is a good question. I'm concentrating on cat litter, lanterns, and ingredients for meal in jars. Powdered milk, eggs, and butter. Hard to find. Thank you so much for your service, greatly love watching you.

I'm focusing on meat right now because I think that's going to be the category of food that's going to go up in price the most, and might even be hard to find in the future.
I'm getting other things too, but my current focus is meat.

Baking soda, baking powder, salt, yeast, cornmeal, grits, honey, cooking oil, shortening, canned or powdered milk, powdered eggs and butter. Boring basics, but they're essential, have a long shelf life & make alot of food.

I was given 6 lbs of pears this week. I am not a hugh fan of them but didn't want them to go to waste so I made pear sauce and canned it up to use in baking. Anyplace you can use applesauce you can use pear sauce. . It was my first time doing this so I am quite excited about how they came out! Use up that fruit and get it canned and into your pantry!!

Just stocking up on everything a little at a time. Bought 50+ canning jars at an auction and several old garden hoses that we can use to water our garden from the pond if need be. Planning on doubling the garden next year. When the actual final domino falls (SHTF) We'll be as ready as we can be. Thanks for the info, as always!

Great video! Thanks! I’ve been stocking up on “ meals in a bag”. I buy different pasta styles, different pasta jars of sauce, Dollar Tree mushrooms, bacon bits, etc. I have a variety of these meals to grab right off the shelf. They won’t last forever but they will provide ready “ no thought” meals for a less than perfect day. 💗

Feeling so sorry for you guys on the East coast with the wild fires smoke. Mask up when outdoors. Your poor parents must be very difficult. Prices just going up and up. Plus things are getting harder to find. Shortages are real. Tough times.

You can put stewed tomatoes over rice. It's a southern side dish I grew up with. It tastes pretty good. Mom always served it with pork chops, green beans and cornbread. Take care everyone.

Just harvested some of our beets this morning. Canned 5 quarts, Went to Dollar General and got several things from the dollar aisle. Toothpaste, wipes, bar soap, liquid soap, dish soap, paper plates, baggies and freezer bags etc. Will have to make blackberry jam soon. Berries are huge and getting ripe! Hopefully our garden continues to do well and I will have lots more canning to do! God bless!

The items I am stocking up on are chicken, tuna and I decided to throw sardines in the mix. I did get a 4lb bag of pinto beans at the store the other day because the rest of the smaller sizes were out. The meat issues right now are on the high side and just trying to keep up with summer bbq items. Every trip to the store be it food or household item is added. This has indeed gotten more towards to the absolute ridiculous side. Great video.

What is the best way to store pasta, grains, beans , and oatmeal for pantry storage? Vacuum seal or using oxygen absorbers.? I am new at this kind of stuff. Thank you for the advice

Hi Jinne! What a great haul! Everything to really bulk up your pantry. I'm very impressed. Well, you know that I made and canned chicken pot pie filling. One didn't seal so I'm going to make that for tomorrow night. Tomorrow I'm going to town. One of my local grocery stores has boneless skinless chicken breast on sale for $1.99/pound so I'm going to go nuts and buy as much as I can. I'll be canning all that tomorrow night when it's a little cooler. I've ordered 25 pounds of parboiled rice and I'm going to can that, giving it different flavors. One that has chicken bouillon and onions, one that has saffron (if I can find saffron), and one that has a little Chinese kinda flavor with pea pods, sweet peppers, soy sauce, a little shredded carrot and onion. I have a ton of rice besides but I like the idea of having shelf stable ready to eat rice. I can add a little meat to it after I open it if I want or use it as a side dish. My husband is starting to say things like "do we really need more?" He goes back and forth so I just smile and say YES! Take care Jinne…

Our son just got his first apartment and raided our pantry. He hit our pastas, pasta sauces and canned vegetables especially hard, but also got fruit, peanut butter, jelly, etc. so I need to just do a general stock up. We feel better this way because mom is a smart (more experienced) shopper and finds the best deals, and if things really fall apart and he can’t easily get here at least he’s got some supplies while we figure things out.❤️🇺🇸
