Since youโ€™re specifically asking for feedback on a thumbs down video, the intro and other bits are not my gig. Witnessed the โ€œtheatreโ€ in other vids which is fine but if it werenโ€™t for them being your vids , I might have stopped watching. TBH. There are positive comments about the references but again, not my gig. Loving the variety of (new) meals and the regular you. You should just do you. Took me some time to get into your videos but Iโ€™m becoming a regular. Rosemary for the win!

Jon like Ricky Nelson in his song Says You canโ€™t please everybody so you got ta please yourself. Donโ€™t change anything you are a channel to be reckoned with as you are you and thatโ€™s what makes it a great channel. I can think of another couple You tubers who are themselves Hanna lee Dugan and Emon and Bec and Mav all doing themselves. It makes it refreshing to watch authentic people and what they bring to their channels. Keep it up we love it ! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆโค๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ

Too funny Jon ! I believe you would do the theatrics even if you didnโ€™t have a You Tube channel. Lol Love your sense of humour mixed with all the great content . Thx for bringing us along for the fun.๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ”

17:50 re: โ€œthe things that twist donโ€™t workโ€. agreed! never buy hiking poles or anything else that you change the length of by loosening and tightening. it will fail eventually. itโ€™s one of those ideas thatโ€™s great on paper but doesnโ€™t last in the real world.

I use that exact same Stanley thermos (sorry Thermos but they're all thermos now) – I've taken to making a pot of coffee at night over the fire and filling the Stanley then, so it's ready to go the second consciousness creeps into my head in the morning, and it's still piping hot because it was boiling water 8 hours ago. Great vid Jon. Love the shots of falling snow through the trees.

A fun couple of nights with awesome food. Your Smegle is on point as well. I like the trangia. Good to warm it up in your jacket for a few before you start to help with the lighting. Also the distance between the burner and pot is very important. They say an inch to an inch and half is ideal.

Great video! Loved the randomness, yet loaded with info…Lost Lakes variety show!! I also use the Trangia in my hobo stove in the winter. I bring the bowl part of another stick stove to raise the flame closer to the pot…basically an inverted tuna can. Works like a charm.

Hey Jon for your Trangia you want your pot to be about 1" above the burner. You will find it heats faster. I have found on really calm days you may get 20 minutes burn time but mostly 15-18 minutes burn time. Entertaining video man. Enjoy the snow.

I have to say you eat like a king of the elves, though I think you learnt the trade from Gordon Blue, the axe wielding dwarf from the mines. Loved how your Sam went from West Country (like me) to Scottish…
Take it from a guy that's used the same trangia for 35 years, your pot was too high. The simplest pot stand is three tent pegs, but you can use anything. Only thumbs up from Rohan my friend, don't let the downers get you down.

Another epic video. I love the lord of the rings parts too. Huge LOTR fan. The trees creaking is a bit disturbing ๐Ÿ˜ณ.
As for the ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป some people have no appreciation for the work that goes into blogging. So rather than leaving a constructive comment they just do the ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป. Keep up the fantastic job Jon and I love the variety in this short. I see Xander has been watching you too. Love the soup. And the Doritos at the endโ€ฆโ€ฆclassic ๐Ÿ˜

This vid has 53 ๐Ÿ‘Ž in less than 24 hours (on <10K views) which is way above normal.
๐Ÿ‘Ž is part of the business but I'm curious for a light-hearted video like this, what would bring that out.
๐Ÿ‘Ž Is unfortunately a really poor feedback mechanism, like a coach saying "play better", so constructive criticism in the comments is much more impactful and welcome.

Foolish boy! Don't just yet disqualify the Trangia burner. If you would have read yourself into the subject a bit, you could have known that the pot bottom has to be 35-40mm above the burner top. You could clearly see that the flames could barely reach the pot bottom. Take off the top part of your hobo burner and put the pot on the bottom part for instance. Or use an other potstand / windbreaker. There are millions of Trangia potstands out there. Thumbs up for your culinary work in these dire circumstances! I would prefer a tent to sleep in though, because of the wind.

I've got a cheap (~US$65) Chinese knock-off of the wool shell. From all I can tell they look identical. I wear it with the LL Bean nylon anorak when I want a little more wind-proofness. (Erin has the same LLB anorak that I do; same color even.) So for others out there who might be considering getting one of these, there are wool options (not just w$$l).
