I had sticker shock this week. A gallon of milk 4.69 and a dozen eggs 4.12. Neither were name brand..they were the store brands. A can of Campbell’s soup was 1.69 per can..regular size, not family. A regular size box of Quaker instant oatmeal..6.09!!
All I could think was thank God for my pantry.

I feel like once you've stocked the basics that your family enjoys, it's important to add the "sidekicks" so to speak. I love Asian food…so I've stockpiled soy sauce, honey, garlic and ginger so I can always make a sauce. You can make chicken lo mein with canned chicken, veggies and 85 cent spaghetti😋

I would add wheat berries or flour (which is the ground version of wheat berries) so you can bake your own bread. If you stockpile wheat berries be sure to buy them already properly canned or do it yourself. Also, make sure you have a way to grind the wheat berries into flour. A manual grinder for this purpose is a good choice because they are less expensive than electric flour grinders and can be used during a grid-down situation. Baking bread is a very useful skill and can really save you money. 😊

I have a serious intolerance of tomatoes. I love them. They don't like me, and try to run thru as fast as possible. TMI? Sorry. I live alone, so making cheese sauces or gravys are my choice. Cheese can be frozen for a short time if needed. Any other ideas?

I bought chicken legs on sale. Got a pkg with 14 in it for $6.15. They're in my dutch oven now cooking. I plan to make dog food for my little guy, Finn. I'll mix in some sweet potatoes & mixed veggies. I swear he's a vegetarian..he'll eat any veggie..except the purple cabbage in salad mix HA HA I was eating a hot dog with sauerkraut & he was begging..I gave him a bite..thought he'd hate it & leave me alone. NOPE he sat up & begged for more. He will inhale spinach, lettuce, green beans, carrots & potatoes.

I got these foods for my family, but my problem is I'm on a carnivore diet due to allergies/health issues. So, stocking up on beef jerky and meats is a real problem for me due to the prices of meat. I'm looking into making homemade jerky and canning meat. It's a little scary though as I don't want to sicken myself with botulism.

I found canned clams & bought as many as possible (2025 date). We love clam chowder in the winter. Fairly easy to make, add cooked bacon crushed on top for more fat & protein.

I want to stock up on some powdered butter and think it was your video the other day where you talked about having extra can opener so that is on my list to purchase. I'm not sure if it was you but somebody was showing a plastic wrench that you use to open up the 5 gallon buckets and I got one today. So if it was you that suggested those things thank you so much for that!

Thank you for sharing all these great ideas. One of the things that we do stock up on is beverages. Water's great to drink but can get boring and so we get the flavor packets that you can add to your water from the dollar store we get Tang hot cocoa tea instant coffee instant powdered soup mixes Country Time Lemonade. We also have the powdered single use Pedialyte in case somebody gets sick.

Instead of using water to cook my rice or pasta a lot of the time I'll use some powdered bouillon so by the time it's done it's already flavored. I saw somebody mentioned pork bouillon I have not found that yet I will have to keep my eyes out. I was able to find some beef bouillon and bulk to add to my pantry and I already had chicken. I use chicken all the time.

We have a local store that sells spices and pasta and almost everything in bulk and I love it. So you can go in and depending on what your budget is you can get just enough to stay within your budget but it allows you to stock up on the things that you need. And they have some unusual things like wheat berries and lots of spices would save you a considerable amount of money buying in both rather than getting the name brand. I love having the option to do that.

I dehydrate my tomatoes and my garden that are extra and then I blend them up and my blender and make powder. I also do this with my bell peppers and jalapeno peppers. The powder lasts a long time for flavoring in soup and doesn't take up hardly any space. I just store it in my mason jars. And now that the weather is getting a little bit chilly out the dehydrator helps heat the house just enough so I don't have to turn the heat on. You can also dehydrate the greens from a lot of your vegetables like carrots and turnips and add those to your soups as well.
